The US Chess League Game of the Year Contest is going on right now, and lots of USCL fans are blogging their predictions and opinions about the games. Since I was an avid fan during the year myself, I figured why not make my own predictions!?!? If you want to take a look at all […]

The US Chess League final between the Boston Blitz and Dallas Destiny can be summed up in 1 word: LONG! The match started promptly at 8pm EST and didn’t finish until 2:15AM EST! The end of the match was sort of anti-climatic for the spectators since most of us wanted to just go to sleep! […]

I need to stop predicting outcomes of USCL matches, I can never seem to get it right! Boston Blitz dismantled the New York Knights last night, and what I thought would be the most important board turned out not to matter at all! Larry Christiansen was able to hold Hikaru Nakamura to a draw […]

The USCL Semi-Final between Boston Blitz and New York Knights is tonight, and I’m definitely looking forward to the games. There has been lots of live chess action lately with the Tal Memorial and European Championship both being broadcasted on ICC. But all these Super GM tournaments pale in comparison to USCL action!
I expect […]

In my opinion, Shmelov is the most valuable player for the Boston Blitz. Other people may suggest Sammour-Hasbun or Christiansen as potential MVPs for Boston, but let’s consider that MVP means “MOST VALUABLE player”.
Let’s imagine life without Larry on board 1. Boston would be able to use the combo of Perelshteyn and Sammour-Hasbun on […]

Prediction: NJ Knockouts .5 - Boston Blitz 3.5
Board 1: Benjamin-Christiansen
Prediction: 1/2-1/2
This is a pretty close matchup, Benjamin has white but Christiansen seems to be in better form as of late. The victory over Wolff and draw against Nakamura were both very impressive. Christiansen is obviously a very dangerous opponent who is capable of beating just […]

10) Chris was tired after a long night of teaching Kramnik the finer points of rook endgames
9) Chris didn’t think it would be fair to use his awesomeness against a girl
8 ) He lost on purpose so everyone would underestimate him in the playoffs
7) NY smuggled a bag of kryptonite into the Boston Blitz playing […]

What’s nice about making these predictions is that I’ve played against most of these players, which means I know their strengths and weaknesses first hand. Hopefully this will make my predictions more accurate!
Boston Blitz 1.5 - New York Knights 2.5
Board 1 Sammour-Hasbun-Nakamura:
My question is what the **** is Jorge doing on board 1??? He’s […]

I was fortunate enough to catch the tail end of the match on ICC Wednesday evening. When I got home, Chrissy Bear had already won on board 4 and Larry Christiansen was destroying the rusty GM Patrick Wolff. I ended up spending most of my time watching the Bhat-Kelleher game. When I first looked at […]
