Strengths: Dave has a great memory and this helps him remember opening theory easily. He works hard on his openings, and knows a lot about openings he doesn't even play. He is excellent at positions that require slow improvement of his pieces. He is especially strong against the King's Indian as white. Dave's broad knowledge makes him an ideal chess teacher.
Weaknesses: Even though his knowledge of all openings is great, he gets bored too easily and this makes him switch openings too often. Dave is also not as great in sharp position where deep calculation is absolutely required. He is much better at the positions where he can use his chess judgement and understanding.
Amusing Story:
At the 2006 Foxwoods Open, I shared a room with Dave. When I picked Dave up from the airport, he wasn't feeling so great, but he thought it was just a cold. As the tournament progressed, he started feeling worse and worse. I commented to him that I thought he was coming down with pneumonia, but Dave kept on playing. Finally after round 7, he withdrew from the tournament. The next day, he went to the hospital, and the doctor diagnosed him with pneumonia. He later wrote an article in "Chess Horizons" calling me "Dr. Brad".
Reason for this song choice:
Dave is a smooth player, both on and off the chess board.
