Finger Length and Chess Ability!?
I recently read a news article about a study that found a correlation between success among Day Traders and the length of their ring finger compared to their index finger. Apparently having a long ring finger is a sign of high testosterone in the womb during fetal development. In the study, they found having a long ring finger was equal to 2-3 years of experience/education among traders…
That’s a pretty huge finding, and I wonder if there is some correlation between long ring fingers and high chess ratings.. It makes sense that the higher the testosterone, the more competitive a person will be.. Perhaps this is one of the reasons women aren’t very good at chess, simply because they don’t have that competitive drive. I would think this would be applicable to poker players too, but maybe not as much.. Simply because high testosterone could definitely back fire in poker because being competitive is not as important as being level headed and honest with yourself.
So of course the first thing I did when I read this study was to take a look at my hand and see if I “Have the Goods”. It seems that my ring finger is slightly longer than my index finger, maybe that’s why I’m good at chess and poker!?!?

I’m a ranked player with short fingers…I don’t know if I believe this…
